This is the question I hear the most. And I understand why — when you’re waiting for someone you love to come back, every single day feels like a week. So here’s my honest answer, from 22 years of doing this work. Not a sales pitch. The truth.
There’s No Single Timeline for Everyone
I wish I could give you an exact number of days. But anyone who promises you that is not being honest with you.
Every situation is different. How the relationship ended matters. How much time has passed matters. Whether both people still have feelings for each other matters. Even how connected each person is to their own gut feeling plays a role.
Think of it like healing from a cold. Two people catch the same cold, but one is better in three days and the other takes two weeks. Bodies are different. Hearts are different too.

Typical Timeframes People Report
That said, after 22 years, I do see patterns. Here’s what clients usually tell me:
- First small shifts (vivid dreams about your ex, an unexpected text, a strange change in energy): often within the first 3 to 7 days
- Noticeable changes in your ex’s behavior: commonly within 2 to 4 weeks
- Full reconciliation: anywhere from several weeks to a few months, depending on how complicated things are
These are patterns from real client experiences — not promises. Spiritual work opens a door. It doesn’t force anyone through it.
Why Your Situation Might Be Faster or Slower
Some things tend to help:
- The breakup is recent, and no strong new attachment has formed on either side
- You still live near each other or stay in light contact
- There are real, unresolved feelings on both sides — not just habit or loneliness
Some things tend to slow it down:
- A long time has passed with little or no contact
- A new person is already in the picture for you or your ex
- There’s deep hurt or broken trust that hasn’t been faced yet
None of this means your case is hopeless. It just means we need to be honest about the starting point. That’s what your first reading with me is for — I’ll tell you straight what I see.
Signs the Spell Is Starting to Work
Most people notice small shifts before anything big happens. Dreams about your ex. A random text out of nowhere. Hearing their name everywhere. A sudden strong urge from their side to reach out.
If you want the full list of what to watch for, I wrote a separate guide on signs your ex still loves you — read it alongside this one.
What You Can Do While You Wait
Waiting is the hardest part. But how you spend this time truly matters.
Don’t chase. Calling ten times a day or sending long emotional messages pushes people away. Give the work room to breathe.
Take care of yourself. Sleep, eat, move your body. When you feel stronger, you make better decisions — and you become someone people want to come back to.
If you’d like something gentle and focused to do during this waiting time, here is a simple ritual you can do at home.
Stay open, not obsessed. There’s a difference between hoping and gripping. Hoping keeps your heart open. Gripping tries to control every detail, and that control blocks the very thing you want.
Write it down, don’t send it. When you feel the urge to pour everything out in a message — write it in a notebook instead. You’ll feel better, and you won’t say something you regret at 2am.
A Natural Comparison That Might Help
It helps to know what’s normal even without any spiritual work. Research on breakups — including work discussed by The Attachment Project — found that the sharp pain after a breakup usually softens over weeks to a few months for most people. That roughly matches what my clients experience too.
Spiritual work doesn’t erase that natural healing. It works next to it — clearing blocks, calming the energy between you two, and opening the emotional door a little wider.
Common Questions
Can you make it happen faster?
I can’t force another person’s heart — and you shouldn’t trust anyone who says they can. What I can do is clear what’s blocking the path, so things move as fast as they honestly can.
What if nothing has happened in a month?
Then we look at the situation again, honestly. Sometimes the energy needs more time. Sometimes there’s a block we didn’t see at first. And sometimes — rarely — the answer is that this particular door isn’t meant to open, and your energy is better spent elsewhere. I’ll tell you which one it is.
Should I contact my ex while waiting?
Light, natural contact is fine if it happens on its own. But don’t manufacture reasons to talk, and don’t have the big emotional conversation yet. Let the shift happen first.
Does distance matter?
No. I’ve worked with clients across all 50 states and in other countries. Energy doesn’t care about miles.
If You’re Ready to Begin
You can read more about how the whole process works on my Bring Back Lost Lover page, or reach out directly and tell me your story. I’ll listen, and I’ll tell you honestly what I think — before you spend anything.
